About Us
Based in West Sussex but with clients UK-wide, Benchmarq is an independent company with a focus on BIM (Building Information Modelling) and CAD (Computer-Aided Design).
Founded in 2005, the company began life as a software distributor (wholesaler) for CAD and BIM products in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building and Construction.
A move from software distribution (wholesale) to software reseller (retail) took place in 2008 and at that point the company changed its name to Benchmarq Ltd to distinguish it from its Belgian parent company.
At the beginning of 2010, directors Phil Pinder and Carl Alford arranged a management buy-out from the then Belgian owners and set about growing the company in response to the trends in the CAD and BIM marketplace that had started to become evident.
With both directors professionally qualified and with many years of industry experience in construction, they were keen to turn this to advantage and began offering project assistance services to potential clients while at the same time maintaining their support of CAD and BIM software to customers.
Services started to become a more important part of the company’s revenue stream and a significant contract was secured to deliver CAD drawings for the London 2012 Olympics from TfL’s office in London.
Other jobs also followed, including project work at a Surrey-based oil and gas consultancy, working on an onshore oil extraction facility located in Sussex, as well as a larger land-based oil facility in Gabon, Africa which required extensive ground modelling, volume calculations and pipeline routing.
It was also becoming clear at this time that the company’s software customers needed more in terms of product training. The directors, therefore, applied to become a fully authorised Autodesk Training Centre, offering dedicated, fully kitted-out CAD and BIM training facilities at their offices.
In 2015 the UK Government declared that it would be “developing digital capability in design and construction, with all departments on target to procure assets using Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 by 2016”
This resulted in increased demand for BIM project services from surveyors, architects, property developers, civil engineers, MEP contractors and consultants, local government, heritage preservation organisations, asset owners/operators and many others in the building and construction industries.
The demand for 3D Revit BIM modelling, in particular, has enjoyed a significant increase, along with the increasing number of competitor companies also offering this as an offshore service with technicians based in countries such as India and Vietnam!
Benchmarq has developed its project services offering in CAD and BIM and now has a significant number of projects in its portfolio. These span the range from large to small, commercial to residential, buildings to MEP plant and equipment. The company also offers high-end visualisation services.
All work is done in-house using experienced technicians under the leadership and project management of the directors.
