On February 22nd, Autodesk brought Autodesk LIVE out of beta mode and released Revit LIVE version 1.7.
Revit LIVE is a cloud-based software platform that transforms Revit and Revit LT models into an immersive virtual reality experience, in just one click.
Virtual Reality is becoming increasingly used with the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industries to showcase incredibly realistic virtual designs to colleagues and clients before the structure is completed. Users can view the model from a compatible PC desktop, Ipad Pro or through a VR headset such as the HTC Vive.
Revit LIVE enables users to interact with the live environment and get a better understanding of the spacial awareness within the building. The software is a superb add on for visualisation projects, allowing construction and design teams to easily toggle different viewing modes, materials and even see where shadows and sunlight will appear on the building, as well as being able to easily transport from one side of the building to the other, with just one click. The software even goes so far as allowing users to walk up and down stairs, as if the structure was being viewed in real life.
Furthermore, Revit LIVE is an excellent plugin for Building Information Modelling (BIM) projects as users can automatically transfer and access valuable BIM data from the Revit software they are using whilst still inside of the LIVE model. This kind of innovative software allows BIM managers to view data such as accurate area dimensions, materials and building constraints. Autodesk hopes that with the development of these kind of software tools, it will prevent designers and technicians from creating more mistakes in the future, as they will have constant access to the correct information.
Revit LIVE is something we hope to use more of in the office for our consultancy BIM and 3D visualisation projects. We understand that our clients want to see the constant progress of a 3D model, so this is an option that can certainly be offered.
Autodesk Revit LIVE is now fully available to Revit subscribers. A FREE TRIAL can be downloaded, which supports a maximum upload of 10 cloud service projects, with unlimited use of the Revit LIVE editor for 30 days. This free trial is currently only available for the Windows platform.
