Autodesk have announced that after July 31st, 2016, they will stop selling new perpetual licenses of most of most of its Design and Creation Suites, as well as its individual software products including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Inventor Professional etc. The full list can be found here:

The transition is being put into place to offer customers a simplified and enhanced service through Autodesk Desktop Subscription which provides a better customer experience, lower upfront costs and the ability to pay-as-you-go for software and cloud services with multi-year, annual, quarterly or monthly subscription terms.

The changes are similar to other technology software companies such as Adobe Creative Cloud, which enable users to easily keep on top of the latest updates and take advantage of flexible license terms.

With the upcoming changes Andrew Anagnost, Autodesk Senior Vice President of Industry Strategy & Marketing exclaimed: “Autodesk is embracing this new norm and evolving our business so that customers can thrive in theirs. Giving customers the flexibility to subscribe to software solutions that precisely match their needs best positions them to compete in this new era.”
