sketchup geodata

On May 22nd 2017, Trimble, the owners of SketchUp will be changing their geodata service from Google to a new geodata provider.

How will this change affect you?

SketchUp understand that modelling with geographic data is a very important feature for a large majority of their users. Therefore, they are taking extra care to make sure you have access to the most precise data in both SketchUp Make and SketchUp Pro 2017. The SketchUp Make version will be provided with geodata in the form of Map information, while SketchUp Pro will be provided with satellite imagery and terrain data. Adding this information will enable you to continue utilising the Add Location feature within the software.

However, once Google’s geodata is no longer available, the Photo Textures feature will not be accessible in any version of SketchUp you own. SketchUp have stated that for the foreseeable future there won’t be a replacement to this service.

We would advise users of SketchUp to check out this Help Center article which should provide you with any additional information you need. If you have a license with us or are thinking of purchasing SketchUp please fill in a contact form or call us on 01403 784139.
