Earlier this year Autodesk partnered with David S. Cohn Consulting to take part in a productivity study showcasing the results moving from AutoCAD 2011 to AutoCAD 2016.

A variety of drawing tasks were set up to test the differences between AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD 2016. These include:

Task 1: 2D floor plan
Task 2: Drawing from Inventor Assembly
Task 3: 2D site plan from map/aerial photo
Task 4: PDF file
Task 5: 3D Tea Pot

autocad-2016-time-to-complete

As you can clearly see from the graphs and table the results were outstanding and conclusive. It took almost up to nine, time consuming hours to complete the five tasks using AutoCAD 2011 in contrast to 5.25 hours to complete the same five drawings using AutoCAD 2016. This results in a time saving of 41% and a productivity improvement of nearly 70%.

The amount of improvement is so significant that many CAD users would feel that it easily justifies the cost of upgrading to the latest version. With Desktop Subscription it’s now easier than ever to stay up to date with your software licenses, as Autodesk Subscription offers a pay-as-you-go scheme which is more cost effective and keeps you up to date with the latest version.

New and enhanced features in AutoCAD 2016 includes:

Smart dimensioning – Automatically create appropriate measurements based on your drawing context.

Revision clouds – Create and modify revision clouds more easily.

Reality computing – Transform point clouds to 2D drawings automatically.

Co-ordination Model – Attach and view Navisworks and BIM 360 Glue models directly inside AutoCAD software.

Enhanced PDFs – Produce documents more quickly with smarter, smaller and more powerful files. All text is searchable and you can attach PDF files to your drawings for better performance.
