Case Study: CAD-to-BIM (MEP)
Project: Grosvenor Sq. Swimming Pool
Formerly housing the Canadian High Commission in London, 1 Grosvenor Square (1GSQ) was acquired by property developer Lodha in 2014. The company immediately set about converting it to an exclusive development of 44 luxurious residences and included a 25m swimming pool in the basement.
Engaged by a high-end swimming pool designer, our task was to take their 2D AutoCAD drawings and create a 3D model in Revit. The purpose was to coordinate the water supply and filtration model designed by our client with other equipment being installed by the main M&E contractor. Highlighting and alleviating clashes with soil pipe drainage runs in the basement underlined the value of this 3D coordination exercise.
Our brief was to:
- Create a 3D Revit model from 2D AutoCAD designs and drawings of the water supply and filtration equipment for the luxury swimming pool.
- Coordinate this model with the master MEP model managed by the main M&E contractor, providing information for rework back to our client.
- Deliver a final, coordinated Revit *.rvt file to our client for onward integration into the main M&E Revit model for the 1GSQ project.
