Case Study: Scan-to-BIM
Project: Caste Cinema, Swansea Change of Use
Castle Cinema, which dates back more than 100 years, survived fire and Luftwaffe bomb damage during WWII. More recently, the building was converted to a Laser Zone gaming centre but has now received funding from Welsh heritage body Cadw to help restore and repurpose the building. The roof and some internal areas will be demolished to make way for three commercial units and 11 flats for 58 students. Being listed, the ornate entrance and front elevation will be retained, with features such as the entrance doors being repaired, refurbished or replaced to match existing.
Our brief was to:
- Receive and process the point cloud survey data for the site from our survey partner.
- Create a detailed building model of the elevations, including the ornate front facade, together with the interior rooms and spaces. Modelling of the adjacent castle walls and surrounding building elevations was also included.
- Deliver a Revit *.rvt file back to the conservation architect responsible for the refurbishment of the building.
