Case Study: Scan-to-BIM

Project: Ysgol Maesydre, Welshpool Redevelopment Project

Ysgol Maesydre (Maesydre School) in Welshpool is a Grade II building listed by Welsh heritage body Cadw. Of special historical interest it is “a well-preserved example of an important Welsh school type” originally designed in 1898 by Frank Shayler. The challenge was to restore and preserve this historic building while at the same time building a new 21st Century school with a distinct ‘wow factor’ to serve the needs of the local community.

The project forms part of Powys County Council’s 21st Century Schools Programme, which aims to improve the learning environment for pupils across the County. The Programme is jointly funded by the Council and the Welsh Government.

Our brief was to:
  • Receive and process the point cloud survey data for the site from our survey partner.
  • Create a detailed building model of the exterior and interior spaces, capturing the Baroque Revival style elevations in red brick with tiled roof, sandstone dressings, coped gables and roof slopes.
  • Deliver a Revit *.rvt file back to the conservation architect responsible for the project.
